The Story Behind the Golfing Fish

I’ve always loved watching sports content, whether it was on TV or YouTube. In the summer of 2023, I decided to start my own golf YouTube channel after becoming inspired by the direction golf content was heading and wanting to challenge myself creatively.

During my placement year at Dennis Eagle, I completed a LinkedIn Learning course on the fundamentals of Adobe Premiere Pro. That gave me the confidence to pick up a £20 tripod, head to the golf course with just my phone and start filming on my own.

Looking back at those first videos now, I definitely cringe! I can see all the mistakes I’d fix and edits I’d approach differently. More importantly, though, I can see how much I improved with every upload. Each video taught me something new, and that’s a mindset I’ve kept ever since , always looking for ways to make the next one better.

The Golfing Fish has become much more than just a YouTube channel. It’s where I’ve developed my videography, editing and storytelling skills, experimented with new ideas and, most importantly, created content around something I’m genuinely passionate about.

The West Coast Challenge

The West Coast Challenge was my biggest Golfing Fish project to date. A five-part YouTube series following five rounds of golf across Ireland’s west coast. I managed the project from start to finish, including planning, filming, photography, editing and social media promotion. The series included five YouTube videos and five dedicated Instagram posts, generating over 4,000 views across the series.

Day 1 – Donegal Golf Club

The opening round of the West Coast Challenge takes us to Donegal Golf Club, where five days of links golf gets underway.

Round two heads to Bundoran Golf Club for another day of spectacular links golf, great competition and stunning coastal scenery.

The third round brings us to the incredible Enniscrone Golf Club, where towering dunes provide the backdrop for another unforgettable day of golf.

The penultimate round takes us to Strandhill Golf Club, delivering another day of fantastic golf, breathtaking views and plenty of memorable moments.

Building The Golfing Fish on Social Media

Alongside the YouTube channel, I created dedicated social media content for The Golfing Fish to help build the brand and promote each video. During the West Coast Challenge, I used photography from each course alongside short teaser trailers and clips to build interest ahead of each vlog going live. This gave me the chance to think beyond the main video and create different pieces of content from the same shoot, tailored specifically for social media.
